Introduction
JEE is a national level entrance test for admission in various engineering colleges. This is a national level test organized by NTA (National Testing Agency) for admission to 23 IITs (Indian Institute of Technology), 32 NITs (National Institutes of Technology), 18 IIIT (Indian Institute of Information Technology) along with ISM (Indian School of Mines), Dhanbad and other government engineering colleges.
It has replaced AIEEE conducted by CBSE and IIT-JEE. JEE Main has replaced AIEEE which is for admission to the NITs, IIITs and other centrally funded engineering colleges whereas JEE advance replaced IIT-JEE for admission to IITs. Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) conducts admission process in all these institutes.
Since 2017, unlike earlier 12th marks will not matter for appearing in JEE exams as well as Board marks will not be considered for ranking. All India Rank (AIR) will strictly be based on JEE scores.
JEE is considered to be one of the toughest entrance exam across the globe and has great recognition.
It is conducted in two phases- JEE Main and JEE Advance
JEE Main:
Starting form 2019, JEE main will be held two times in a year in January as well as in April. There are two papers in JEE main. Both of them contains objective types question with negative marking. Paper -1 is for taking admission in B.E/B.Tech whereas Paper -2 is for admission in B.Arch/B.Planning. From 2020, there will be one more paper for B.Planning course separately. Paper -1 is conducted in online mode only whereas paper-2 is offline.
JEE main has fixed pattern and generally don’t change over a longer period. Every year as many as 9, 00,000 to 10, 00,000 students take on JEE main exam.
JEE Advance:
Students who qualified for JEE Main are allowed to take JEE Advance test. JEE Advance is generally held in the month of May every year. No of students who qualify for JEE advance every year are about 2, 00,000. As per current ruling, only JEE scores will be considered for All India Ranking.
